In our Inner wheel Social entrepreneur series in this episode we are introducing you to a very dynamic and popular social entrepreneur of IWC who firmly believes in Social service and charity work yes we are talking about Vilas Bhandari President of Inner Wheel Club of Calcutta Metropolitan Dist-329 stepped in with precautions to support Covid affected in this lockdown.
Brief introduction of District 329-
The pioneer in the Eastern Indian subcontinent (erstwhile territory extended to West Bengal, North Eastern States of India, and Bangladesh). They belong to the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India and are an International Inner Wheel district made up of clubs in south Bengal and the Inner Wheel Club of Port Blair, Andaman in the Bay of Bengal. The total strength is 54 clubs and 1,570 members. A few of the clubs include Contai, Calcutta Junction, Calcutta Mahanagar, North Calcutta, Metro Maidan, Calcutta Mega City, Serampore, Southwest Calcutta, and many more.
Mumbai: The Inner Wheel Clubs never neglected their commitments to bring innovative undertakings for the society likewise inner wheel club of Calcutta metropolitan, district 329 succeeded along with visionary projects to help the community
They have accomplished some innovative and impactful projects in the past. This club had adopted a leprosy village in 2019 and since then they have restored two water bodies, seeded trees that provide fruits and shade.
Enhanced the school building including the construction of a toilet for female students.
Have contributed them with a computer and a printer for online coaching, to give them self-confidence and bring dignity to their lives.
During the pandemic, the club has carried out magnanimous work to fight covid. She says,” We have provided oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeter, nebulizer, infrared thermometers, medicines, PPE kits, surgical masks, gloves, face shields, sanitisers, dry ration, and cooked meals.
We are working towards empowering women as well, as that would help build a stronger world. And The purpose of one’s life is to care and serve.”
Adding to it said “The beauty of life is to give universal and unconditional love. With this motto, our members have come together to fulfill our goals. ”
Moreover, The club was established in the year 1988 with 26 charter members. Today they are proud to have 56 active members. Along with are a part of the international inner wheel, the largest women’s voluntary organisation in the world with representation in the UN.
Brief Introduction of Inner Wheel :
International Inner Wheel is an international women’s organisation to create friendship, service, and understanding. It has clubs in over 100 countries with over 100,000 members. It is a nonprofit organization and known for its charity works. Inner wheel club has a very strong presence in India. More than 3,000 clubs are active in urban as well rural areas of India.
